In an interview with India Today Global, Dr. Seyed Emamian, GPTT co-founder discussed the election of Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian as the new Iranian president following the loss of the late President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi in May. He stated that Pezeshkian is certainly not an “outsider” to Iranian politics, while before the recent election, he has been mainly seen as a “local” politician and he is rather new at the national level. However, he is privileged by the political support of the reformist camp and his Administration is also well-experienced by the legacy of President Seyed Mohammad Khatami and President Hassan Rouhani’s administrations.
According to Dr. Emamian, the main possible challenge regarding the Pezeshkian administration would be the introduction of “politically divisive and radical” figures as his cabinet members. GPTT co-founder also addressed the Indo-Iranian bilateral relations and suggested that there is a consensus across Iranian politics that during the last few years India has “over-complied” with US sanctions, particularly concerning the Chabahar project.
