Moscow, Russia – Dr. Majid Afshani, A leading expert on international relations has called on the BRICS nations to play a crucial role in addressing complex global challenges and revitalizing the credibility of international institutions. Speaking at the BRICS Seminar on Governance and Cultural Exchange Forum 2024, Dr. Afshani, Director of the International Group at the Sharif Governance and Policy Think Tank, stressed the importance of a collective approach to tackling multifaceted issues that goes beyond national boundaries.

“The world today faces multi-dimensional, complex, and transboundary challenges in governance,” stated Dr. Afshani. “These can only be addressed through collaboration among all nations.”

The expert highlighted the erosion of trust in international organizations following the genocide in Gaza and the failure of the United Nations to prevent this tragedy.

Afshani also underscored the potential of BRICS’ economic capacity to counter unilateralism and oppressive sanctions. “The economic power of BRICS can be leveraged to push back against unfair practices and promote a more equitable global order,” He stated.

In his address, Majid Afshani suggested the establishment of a BRICS Think Tank Network and a BRICS Regulatory Network to improve intellectual engagement.

Dr. Afshani also stressed the importance of prioritizing intellectual diplomacy within BRICS, facilitating a more effective and impactful dialogue among leading thinkers and decision-makers. He further emphasized the critical need for BRICS to prioritize the establishment of digital governance frameworks that uphold ethical standards and safeguard societal values.

The BRICS Governance and Cultural Exchange Forum 2024 is taking place in Moscow and brings together experts, policymakers, and academics from across the ten member nations (Russia, China, India, South Africa, and Iran, among others) to discuss key issues impacting the global political and economic landscape.
