Emerging online platform regulation reflects a shift in policy mentality

In a note published in a monthly on the subject of cyber-space on October 25, Ali Sa’d, GPTT’s executive director emphasized that “relying on traditional rules and procedures in regulating new online platforms leads to the deregulation of their activities in fact.” According to him, the regulation of huge platforms requires intra-regional, inter-regional, and extra-regional cooperation. Collaborators that have demonstrated their effectiveness in EU coordinated actions to protect the rights of local users and businesses in the implementation of the DSA9 and DMA10 directives. He suggested that reaching an effective framework for the regulation of platforms requires a change in attitudes towards them and also a comprehensive look at understanding the requirements of the new paradigm of governance.
