India, the Global South, and the Gaza crisis

In a note published in Tehran Times newspaper in English on November 26, GPTT’s researcher, Shayan Afrasiabi discussed the reaction of India as “the voice of the Global South” to the Gaza crisis. According to him, India’s long-lasting endeavors to be branded as the representative or “the voice” of the Global South were challenged by the international reaction to the recent Gaza crisis. India failed to accompany the majority of countries in the Global South in late October voting for an immediate truce in the UN General Assembly. Although India, of course, has narrow self-interests in maintaining good relations with Israel, similar to other countries that had the ambition of “leading” the world or regions or blocs, India should match its words with deeds, otherwise other countries would take them as just hollow rhetoric in the future.
